The provider-payer initiatives aligned under the Value Partnerships umbrella operate under the belief that system transformation is more likely if:
- Physicians' interests are aligned with payers' and purchasers' interests
- Providers own the responsibility
- Provider organizations have structure and active leadership (at the group/clinic and hospital/service levels)
- Provider organizations have control over the sharing of information, processes and responsibility
- Focus is on communities of caregivers with shared responsibility for managing a patient population
- Caregivers, in partnership with patients, are the frame of reference for efforts to optimize care
